Not much more to say on this. It’s not that hard to grok.
We manage to do it with “sheep”, without too much confusion (past the age of about 4 or 5). We should probably put the same effort into our National Bird that also serves as a reference to the people of Aotearoa New Zealand.
There aren’t 5 million “Kiwis” in NZ. There’s ~5 million Kiwi.
Easy, isn’t it?
While I’m at it, the number of sheep in NZ is down significantly. We’re now less than five sheep per person (at 25.3m sheep). The peak was about 22 sheep per person, back in 1982.
Still a lot of sheep. And a few more Kiwi.
